Our Family Pride (OFP) is a heartfelt coming of age story based on a family that comes together through conflict and difficult life events, amid finding out their father (Jaimie) is gay. The story is based on real life events and tells the personal journeys of the father (Jaimie), mother (Max) and their three children (Mike, Kaitlin, and Sydney).
OFP tells the story of how family members are affected when a parent comes out gay later in life. Each family member deals with their individual personal challenges, while coping with and accepting their fathers’ difficult coming out story.
This dramatic presentation tells a story that is rarely ever explored and has been greatly untold. OFP takes the audience through Jaimie’s personal journey to understand how and why he denied his acceptance of being gay, committing to a life as a heterosexual man ultimately resulting in him becoming a husband and father of three. OFP goes back in time and tells the love story between Jaimie and his wife (Max), illustrates the challenges Jaimie faced with his attraction to men, and experiences with brutal homophobia throughout his life.
Other difficult life themes are covered throughout the story including sexual identity, substance addiction, depression, sexual assault, and controversial corporate inclusion and diversity actions.
