Experimental jazz collective You, Me, + the Whales Sextet, celebrate their new album, You are in a Kitchen Filled with Plants as the Sun Streams Inwards, with a live show and album signing at Amoeba Hollywood!

Show is free/all-ages. Album purchase on 8/25 at Amoeba required to attend signing after their performance.

You, Me, + the Whales Sextet is a Los Angeles-based creative jazz ensemble led by brothers Zac Burgenbauch (guitar) and Devin Burgenbauch (bass). Their debut LP, You are in a Kitchen Filled with Plants as the Sun Streams Inwards, is out now on Little Mango Recordings.

Featuring David Otis (saxophones), Elif Dinçer (harp/electronics), M A Harms (vibraphone/percussion), and Lucas Lenny (drumset), the sextet draws from spiritual jazz, open improvisation, American primitive guitar, Indian classical music, field recordings, and a lot of bells. Raised in California's Eastern Sierra, Zac and Devin bring a strong sense of place to the music, where environmental sounds and spacious forms sit alongside melody, improvisation, and collective listening.

Recorded over three days at Carbonite Sound in Ojai, California, when the ensemble had been playing together for less than a year, the album captures six musicians discovering a shared musical language in real time. Composition and improvisation continually exchange roles as the music moves between expansive group interplay, lyrical melodies, and moments of quiet resonance."
