Racial Equity Statement
As an organization, we recently bore witness to the remarkable will of thousands of individuals who purposefully chose Hollywood’s streets as a canvas to express their beliefs and rally for change. Even more remarkable was that these actions elevated awareness about need for racial equity.
Although the protests in Hollywood have not been without incident, we wholeheartedly support and applaud the many peaceful protests and thank the community, the protestors, and our partners in public service for their assistance in maintaining the peace and most importantly, ensuring that the message was delivered, felt, and heard: that Black Lives Matter.
The Hollywood Partnership represents a diverse group of property owners, residents, and business representatives, and we support this message. We are a community, and we are committed to this value.
As Maya Angelou once said, “When you know better, you do better.” Here are ways that our organization and area stakeholders can become more inclusive and support marginalized groups:
- Support the goal of diversity throughout the organization. From the Board to front-line staff, we should aspire for our organizations to reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.
- Educate and empower people through the provision of consistent, mandatory diversity and racial equity training for both office and front-line staff.
- Support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)-owned businesses. Via promotion and / or procurement, support the performance of BIPOC-owned businesses.
Hollywood has always been, and will continue to be, a place where people from every walk of life can realize their dreams. To continue that legacy, we must strive to right the wrongs of systemic racism and injustice. It is through the achievement of racial equity that we can help create a Hollywood that exceeds expectations.
