Two reggae heavyweights bring the spirit of Jamaica to the Bowl.

The eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley, Ziggy Marley has cut a singular path in the world, bringing the sounds of reggae music together with funk, blues, rock, and more. After two decades as the driving creative force behind the Melody Makers, Ziggy Marley carved out a trailblazing solo career as musician, activist, producer and humanitarian, garnering nine Grammy awards, an Emmy Award, and the George and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement—the first reggae artist to do so.

In turn, Burning Spear’s impact on reggae music can’t be overstated. With a career spanning over six decades, his message of self-reliance and self-determination for the African diaspora remains as powerful as his characteristic vocal delivery—and powered his successful campaign to have a national holiday named for Black Jamaican activist Marcus Garvey. Winner of two Grammys for Best Reggae Album and nominated for 12, Burning Spear’s music is always evolving.

Ziggy’s daughter and rising musician Zuri Marley opens the night with a DJ set, rounding out an evening of true reggae royalty delivering a danceable message of love, unity and social consciousness.
