The Lonely Together are a universal dream rock band from Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded on Mike Baillie’s emotive songwriting, the band have set a high standard for an independent outfit, working out of some of Scotland and America’s best studios and touring with the likes of Snow Patrol, Augustana, Luke Sital-Singh, Idlewild, Delays, Katie Malco and more.
2021’s, ‘Everything Viewed Backwards Through The Rearviewmirror’ was a bold statement for a debut record – a shimmering 14-track tower of an album, made with love at Glasgow’s revered CaVa Sound Studios. Through its’ release , the band would find their way to radio with singles such as ‘Congregation’, ‘Shots Fired…’ and ‘Keep A Secret’, amongst others and would go on to be championed by BBC 6 Music broadcasting legend, Steve Lamacq.
Sophomore record, ‘Endless Sunset Oblivion’ would burst into the world in the summer of 2023 – a vital, existential follow-up, arguably featuring Baillie’s best work to date. Recorded at Post Electric Studios, Edinburgh with Rod Jones (Idlewild/Hamish Hawk/Katie Gregson-MacLeod) and featuring Jonny Scott (CHVRCHES/The Kills), Scott Kelman (The Little Kicks) and The Cairn String Quartet, it’s fair to say that The Lonely Together are swinging for the back fence.
2024 saw Baillie complete a successful solo tour of free shows at independent record stores in 10 cities around the UK and Ireland, looking to give back and spread a little positivity amidst the current cost-of-living crisis, as well as a recent sold-out support gig at SWG3 in Glasgow, in addition to upcoming shows at Bowery Electric in NYC on September 12 and October 11, and Toonerville Music Festival on September 21.
Inspired by James Iha, Sparklehorse and Kevin Drew, The Lonely Together have secured their space alongside the best of indie rock at a time when humanity, sincerity, and intention have never mattered more in music.
