7 Great Gourmet Pizza Places in Hollywood

Tag: Dining

Whether it's a late night craving or a pre-show meal, pizza probably comes to mind. The comforting combination of cheese, bread and toppings is inherently communal, which makes sharing a pie with friends a ritual—one that's fitting for an outing in Hollywood. A couple of years ago, it would be hard to argue Los Angeles was a pizza town, but Hollywood is, perhaps, better prepared to serve up gourmet slices than ever.  Hollywood's pizzerias have helped change L.A.'s pizza landscape, and seven of them are located within the heart of the neighborhood, so you can indulge the next time you're out on the town.

Stella Barra

Located just a few steps from the Arclight and Amoeba Records, Stella Barra serves up artisanal pizzas in a chic, airy space fitting for both a group outing or date night. Known for its classic margherita pies, Stella Barra's menu boasts a myriad of pizzas made with organic produce, meats and cheeses, and diners can choose from bases of either traditional tomato or white parmesan cream sauce. The restaurant is perhaps best known for its crust—Chef Jeff Mahin's own dough recipe crafted from fresh-milled California flour that's hand spun into thicker American-style and "thin sin" crispy pies.

L'Antica da Michele is tucked away in Hollywood's Artisan's Patio.

L'Antica da Michele

L'Antica da Michele has been serving up pizza since 1870 in Naples, Italy. After gaining attention from the West after its mention in Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love," the pizzeria opened a Hollywood location in an indoor-outdoor space reminiscent of a home. At L'Antica da Michele, Chef Michele Rubini uses a high-protein flour and double-fermentation process to create thin, chewy pizza that's cooked in under a minute in a wood-fired oven surrounded by glass, so you can watch. With only five kinds of pizza on the menu, the chain keeps it simple, so you can focus on the flavor and the familial atmosphere.
